The War of 1812 has mainly been forgotten in American culture today. Few people remember that our national anthem The Star Spangled Banner came from that war.
Another tune that came from that war and Jackson’s victory was a fiddle tune, a reel specifically, called the Eighth of January. In 1936 a teacher and folk music singer named Jimmie Driftwood put words to that instrumental to teach his students the history of Jackson’s battle.
