Last night singer/song writer Dan Penn returned to his hometown of Vernon, Ala., to play a show on the old Vernon High School auditorium stage. The performance was the first time Penn played on the stage since he left Vernon in 1960 to make music he told the Palmer's Almanac. "That was the first stage I played on and it was nice to be back" Penn said. Penn co-wrote such hits as "Dark End of the Street" and "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man." On the stage in Vernon Penn was accompanied by keyboardist Bobby Emmons who co-wrote the song "Luckenbach, Texas" among other hit songs. Please enjoy photos of the performance in Vernon below.
