Every now and again four full moons will appear in a single season. Normally, three full moons appear in each three-month season- Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring- and that equals 12 full moons in a year. In spring 2016, there are four full moons, occurring on March 23, April 22, May 21 and June 20. Ancient calendar keepers called the third full moon of four in a season a "belewe" moon, an Old English term that meant betrayer. And thus "belewe" evolved linguistically to became the "blue" which we use today. To read more about that, click here.
